PURPOSE: The buyer is responsible to select the best products and buy at reasonable prices to generate profit for their organization,
Essential Functions
- Review purchasing plan and identify the organization’s purchasing needs
- Research, select and purchase quality products and materials in accordance with the company’s standards and plans
- Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best price, quantities, and delivery timescales
- Process requisitions and update management on the status of orders
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to update inventory and manage stock levels
- Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery
- Understand the target market and analyze trends to make informed buying decisions
- Coordinate with inventory team, management, and stockroom for smooth process flow
- Monitor the stock quality and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or another relevant degree
- CIPS certification will be an asset.
- Three (3) years experience in a similar position
- Interpersonal skills, particularly in negotiating
- Vendor Relationship management and the ability to build a strong network of suppliers in meeting targets
- Ability to cope with pressure and adapt to situations
- Analytical skills
- Experience in the supermarket industry
